IndiGo’s International Air Transport Association (IATA) code, ‘6E,’ is fundamental to the airline’s branding and promotion. The lawsuit claims that Mahindra’s use of the tag could damage IndiGo’s brand image and create market confusion. The case has been filed, and the first hearing is scheduled for December 9, 2024.
Mahindra’s Reply

In reply to IndiGo’s notice, Mahindra issued an official statement to address the allegations. The company clarified that the trademark application for ‘BE 6e’ was filed under class 12 of vehicles as a complete term and not for the standalone use of ‘6E.’ Mahindra highlighted that its trademark differs significantly from IndiGo’s, which represents an airline code. The CEO of Mahindra , Anand Mahindra further declared that it had no intention of breaking on IndiGo’s goodwill or brand identity. Mahindra’s officials are actively engaging with IndiGo to resolve the issue peacefully .
The Next Step
The case brings two prominent brands from entirely different sectors into a legal battle over trademark rights. The court will determine whether Mahindra’s ‘BE 6e’ infringes on IndiGo’s ‘6E’ trademark. The outcome of the hearing, scheduled for December 9, will provide more clarity. Meanwhile, Mahindra’s new electric SUVs are planned for market release by the end of February 2025.
